Esther Kustanowitz


Esther Kustanowitz, freelance writer and senior editor of PresenTense Magazine

Esther D. Kustanowitz writes, edits and consults in areas of expertise including dating and relationships, Jewish life, pop culture and online social media. She has been quoted as a dating-issues and pop culture expert for articles on MSN's Dating and Relationships page, as well as in the New York Sun, Salon.com, NYMetro, New Voices, and Ad Age, and served as media relations director for 2007's Jewlicious Festival. She is now also the PR and Media Consultant for ROI Summit 2007, a conference of young Jewish leaders in Jerusalem. In addition, Esther will be a speaker at the UJC General Assembly's Next Generation Plenary this November.

Esther has recently emerged as one of the up-and-coming voices in the world of Jewish blogging. Her two blogs, My Urban Kvetch and Jdaters Anonymous, have attracted a loyal following, and she regularly contributes to Jewlicious, and Beliefnet's "Idol Chatter"blog. In 2007, Esther began writing Good for the Jews," a JTA blog about North American Jewry.

Esther writes "First Person Singular," a singles column that appears biweekly in the New York Jewish Week, where she has also published articles about Jewish standup comedy, Orthodox egalitarian wedding rituals, body image issues for teenage girls, and special needs Jewish education. She is currently also the senior editor for PresenTense Magazine, a new magazine for Jews in their 20s and 30s, which reached a distribution of 12,000 with its first issue. She also wrote "Sole Searching," a monthly column on Jewish spirituality for GenerationJ.com, a webzine for Jews in their 20s and 30s.

Esther is the author of "The Hidden Children of the Holocaust: Teens Who Hid From the Nazis (Rosen Publishing, 1999)," and has contributed to and edited several other books.
