I am writing to express my deep personal concern over the fate of Gilad Shalit. The fate of this abducted soldier is now in the hands of the current negotiations, and the international community is looking to you in the role of moderator to bring an immediate and humane resolution to this ongoing justice. I thank you for your decision to continue Egypt's mediation despite the pressure from Hamas, and urge you to continue to use your diplomatic powers to facilitate Shalit's immediate release.
