Bring a Smile to a Child's Face
Build a Bridge to an IDF Soldier

Dear Friend,

For more than 20 years the American Zionist Movement has provided traditional mishloach manot to Israeli children and soldiers in the Israeli Defense Forces. This year circumstances demand that we expand this important initiative. You can bring a smile to a child's face with a small donation for a basket of candy; but there is a lot more that you can do with a little bit more.

Reports from Israel reflect extraordinary unity among the people for Operation Cast Lead. The readiness of the IDF and the willingness of Israel's soldiers to meet the call has never been higher. But years of terrorizing rocket attacks have left a cloud of fear over the eyes of the children. The single message coming from Sderot and communities in the south is that of the psychological trauma to its residents, especially the children.

What is the Zionist response? AZM says it is to lift the pall of fear with the light of our solidarity and friendship.

This year, each child's Purim basket will contain a small flashlight from the American Zionist community, along with usual goodies. It is our way of saying to residents of Sderot, Ashkelon, Ashdod, Beer Sheva and the moshavim and kibbutzim under the threat of Hamas rocket fire that there they are not alone. There is light in the unlit bomb shelters and safe rooms. The Jewish people stand as one.

Please stand with Israel today and light up a child's face with a smile. Connect with the brave members of the IDF with a traditional Purim basket.

Make your presence felt in Israel, where our people need you most. Make your contribution to the Purim Connection. Please donate now: $18 for a schoolchild; $36 for an injured child; $54 for a soldier's basket; or $180 for an injured soldier.

Pray for peace for Jerusalem, for all Israel and the immediate, safe return of Gilad Shalit.

With warm Zion greetings,

William D. Hess, President
