Every year, the World Zionist Organization (WZO), together with the American Zionist Movement (AZM), brings elite Jewish journalism students and young professionals in North America to the Jewish Federation of North America's General Assembly for a conference within the conference aptly titled “Do the Write Thing” (DTWT). Participants are provided with the opportunity to interview high-ranking officials, hobnob with the who’s who of the Jewish world, and learn from seasoned journalism professionals. The young journalists are provided with all the necessary tools and connections to help further their careers in both the near and distant future.
Graduating from college? Thinking about the future? Want to keep your passion for Israel alive, but you are not sure how?
The answer: Stepping Up While Staying In, a special event just for college seniors in the New York area. Held on May 4, 2011 in the corporate offices of Oppenheimer & Co, this special event provided opportunities for seniors to network at a wine and cheese reception, consult with experts in the job placement field, speak with representatives of Jewish and Zionist organizations, and explore opportunities in Israel. “The goal is to help keep students involved with Israel and Jewish life once they transition into the ‘real world’ and become young professionals”, said Eliav Rodman, Young Leadership Director of the American Zionist Movement.
Students had the opportunity to participate in two workshops: “What the Pros Don’t Tell You About Jewish Jobs: Breaking Into the World of Jewish Non-Profits”, presented by Daniel Ripps, Vice President at DRG – The Development Resource Group – a national management and executive search consulting firm working in the nonprofit sector. “How to Remain an Israel Activist While Working in the ‘Real World’” was presented by Hadar Weiss, Vice President of Originations at Debt Acquisitions Group, a fund specializing in distressed debt situations, and Co-Chair of JNFuture, the young leadership gateway for the Jewish National Fund. “It was a great event, I learned a ton, and networked with some really great people”, said Shayna, a senior at Columbia University.
