Eugenia Manwelyan, Vice President
Eugenia (Jane) Manwelyan, AZM Vice President, is the 24-year-old Cultural Director of Hashomer Hatzair and Programs Director at the Kibbutz Program Center. She was elected by her peers at the 2007 AZM Biennial Assembly to serve as AZM Vice President.
Eugenia has been working in Jewish informal education for the last 9 years. Originally from Russia, she grew up in the suburbs of Boston and attended McGill University, where she majored in International Development. She spent her final undergraduate year in Israel, studying Middle Eastern Politics and Contemporary Jewish Issues at Tel Aviv University. Having grown up in the 90-year-old Socialist-Zionist movement Hashomer Hatzair, Eugenia spent the last year in Israel living communally on Kibbutz Mishmar Haemek along with seven other members of Hashomer Hatzair North America. The group ran an informal education and drama program at a middle school in the Arab village of Barta'a, which Eugenia counts as one of the most life-altering experiences of her life. Eugenia now lives in a Hashomer communa in Brooklyn.
Eugenia believes that peace, even in the Middle East, is both possible and inevitable.
