Generations: A Chronicle of American Zionists: Introduction

There are thousands of Jewish heroes all over America. Please help us find you.

Each and every trip to Israel is reliving the miracle...Our collective accomplishmentsgive rise to unparalleled pride. Playing even a small part in this endeavor is the greatest satisfaction which I have in my life. Ivan Michael Schaeffer, Kensington, MD

When I was 11 years old I took part in a "Jewish Day" ceremony at the Chicago World's Fair. We had wands with the American flag on one end and the [Israeli] flag on the other. It was 65 years ago and I still remember the thrill. Geraldine Spivak, Thousand Oaks, CA

My great-great-grandfather was the rabbi from Romania who resettled in Rosh Pina with the funds from Rothschild. His son, my great-grandfather, was a follower of Herzl and travelled to the Zionist congresses. His name was Avram Mordecai Rabinowitz. Judi Finklestein, Owings Mills, MD

As an MSW, I volunteered at a residential treatment center for retarded children in Acco, Israel during the Gulf War 1991. Elaine Marks,Greenwich,CT

Israel exists because countless people willed it into existence.

Some wrote letters, called or personally visited their legislators. Some collected money or gave money. Some planted trees. Still others contributed their labor, knowledge or special skills, in or outside of Israel. Some even gave their lives.

In so doing, they contributed to the idea at the heart of Zionism -- that there should be a Jewish homeland, where any Jew has the right to live in peace.

If your family provided any kind of assistance to the State of Israel -- to bring it into existence or to help keep it in existence -- you are Zionist heroes.

The American Zionist Movement would like to make sure a record of your heroism is preserved in the Zionist Archives in Jerusalem. It's a great way to honor the memory of relatives who cared so much about Israel, or to preserve your own memories and deeds, and those of living family members. It's also a very suitable way to help celebrate Israel's 50th anniversary.

Your participation in the Zionist dream belongs in the Zionist Archives in Jerusalem.

Please fill out a form and become part of Israel's history.
