WHEREAS On June 25, 2006, Hamas terrorists abducted Gilad Shalit, an Israeli soldier, and took him to Gaza, and though a video was released in which Shalit states he was severely injured, Hamas has forbidden the International Red Cross from treating him, and also denied him communication with his family;

WHEREAS On July 12, 2006, Hezbollah terrorists crossed into Israeli sovereign territory and abducted Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev, and there has been no word from or about them concerning their location, physical condition, or mental state since;

WHEREAS Zachary Baumel, Zvi Feldman, and Yehuda Katz have been missing in action since a 1982 tank battle in Lebanon; Ron Arad was shot down in southern Lebanon, captured by members of a Lebanese Shiite organization, and was subsequently transferred to the Iranian “Revolutionary Guard” in Lebanon; and Guy Hever, an Israeli soldier, reportedly last seen near the Israeli-Syrian border, disappeared after leaving the base on August 17, 1997;

WHEREAS The terrorists holding these Israeli soldiers are in direct violation of international law, specifically the Geneva Conventions, which stipulate that prisoners have the right to treatment by the International Red Cross and communication with their families, and also UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which calls for Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev’s unconditional release;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that (name of organization) unites with the American Zionist Movement in demanding the immediate and unconditional release of all of the abducted Israeli soldiers and pledges to:

  • (1) Demonstrate concern and sympathy for the families of all of the abducted and missing soldiers and fully supporting their heroic efforts to bring their loved ones home;
  • (2) Stand in firm solidarity with the Israeli government and supporting its efforts to restore these men to their country, and with all the brave soldiers of the Israeli Defense Force, who defend the Jewish homeland and enable Israel to build and sustain a flourishing, democratic society;
  • (3) Commend Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-Moon in his public demonstration of concern about the abducted Israeli soldiers and encourage his continued efforts to achieve the return of Israel’s abducted soldiers;
  • (4) Commit to work diligently to publicize these unconscionable abductions through petitions, postcard campaigns, rallies and educational programs about the important issues involved, keeping this issue at the forefront of the agenda until these men are restored to their families and the country which they serve.
